| The economic
growth of today's "advanced" economies was achieved by "developing"
natural resources on a grand scale to construct infrastructure
for massive production and consumption. This unsustainable
pattern of "development" is now rapidly spreading to developing
nations, through development aid policies and investment activities
of advanced nations, and causing a broad range of severe problems,
including environmental destruction and human rights abuses.
In order to establish
a sustainable global community, it is imperative that advanced
nations and their development agencies formulate development
policies and funding practices which are consistent with the
principles of sustainability.
The aim of SDAP
is to recommend policies that will contribute to the realization
of a sustainable society, through our research and analysis
of environmental considerations and other policy aspects of
development assistance.
